One of Australia’s first-class cricketing legends, Jamie Siddons, has signed on to become an ambassador for the 2017 Towards Zero Willowfest Australian Cricket Championships.

Born and bred in the North West Victorian town of Robinvale, Siddons joins a host of big names who have previously filled the ambassador role to champion the event, this year in its 40th year, including Kim Hughes, Rodney Hogg, Darren Lehmann, Merv Hughes and Alex Blackwell.

During a decorated 16 year career as a player, Siddons scored more than 10,000 runs in Sheffield Shield cricket whilst playing for both Victoria & South Australia, as an attacking middle order batsman earning him the title of being one of the greatest domestic players never to win an Australian Test cap.

It wasn’t just on the cricket field where he excelled, Jamie was also a talented Australian Rules footballer playing 2 games for the Sydney Swans in the VFL during the 80’s before commencing his first-class cricket career with Victoria.

In recent years Siddons has enjoyed a successful transition into the coaching ranks. Prior to the Ashes in 2005 he was appointed as senior coach at Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence. He then went on to lead the Bangladesh national team into the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the Wellington Firebirds in New Zealand before assuming his current position as the head coach of the South Australian Redbacks.

Willowfest President, Anthony Telfer, was thrilled when the former Victorian and South Australian skipper accepted the 2017 Ambassador role.

“Whenever we have a milestone year we always attempt to ramp up our celebrations. This year is no different and I am excited to have Jamie confirmed as our 2017 Willowfest Ambassador. It is a great honour to have him attend”, Telfer said.

The 40th 2017 Towards Zero Willowfest Australian Cricket Championships commence on Wednesday December 27 and conclude on Saturday December 30.
