Rolton Ready to Rock

Former Australian women’s captain and International Cricket Council Hall of Fame inductee, Karen Rolton, will join Jamie Siddons as an ambassador for the upcoming 2017 Towards Zero Willowfest Australian Cricket Championships.
Together with Siddons, the 42-year-old South Australian left hander will greatly enhance the ongoing legacy of the carnival which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Rolten joins a host of big names who have previously filled the ambassador role to champion the event, this year in its 40th year, including Merv Hughes, Rodney Hogg, Ian Callen, Darren Lehmann, Alex Blackwell, Trevor Chappell, Wayne Phillips & recently Kim Hughes in showing their support for the iconic event.
Karen Rolton played 14 Tests and more than 100 one-day internationals for her country between 1995 and 2009, scoring over 5,800 runs including 10 centuries.
Regarded as a true pioneer for women’s cricket, Karen’s achievements at both domestic and international level have inspired a whole new generation of young women and girls to take up the game.
“I’m extremely excited to be a part of Willowfest to help celebrate its 40th year & can’t wait to be there & watch how the cricket unfolds.” Rolten said.
Currently involved at Women’s Big Bash League level with the Melbourne Renegades, Rolton is also coach of the Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club and it is there that her Willowfest connection was made.
Willowfest President, Anthony Telfer, said that it was a massive coup to secure another high-profile name as the 2nd Towards Zero Willowfest ambassador.
“People may not be aware, but, there is a local link with Karen as she is looking after Sunraysia girls Makinley Blows and Sarah Telfer in the Victorian Cricket Association Women’s Premier Competition. It was actually Sarah’s idea to ask ‘Rolt’s’ to be our ambassador this year”, Telfer said.
The 2017 Towards Zero Willowfest Australian Cricket Championships will be held in the beautiful rural cities of Mildura and Wentworth commencing on Wednesday December 27 and concluding on Saturday December 30.
