ABOUT WILLOWFEST

THE WILLOWFEST AUSTALIAN COUNTRY CRICKET CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS is an annual event held in the beautiful rural city of Mildura nestled on the banks of the majestic Murray River, in north west Victoria.

The Championships are conducted between the 27th and 30th December. Cricket teams from all over Australia come to the vibrant holiday mecca of Mildura to enjoy the summer weather, play cricket on first class facilities and vie for the largest prizemoney purse offered for a Carnival of this type in Australia.

Country Cricket Clubs will be competing for over $10,000.00 of prizemoney.

With all the attractions of Mildura and this amount of prizemoney, the Willowfest Australian Country Cricket Championships is establishing its niche on the cricket calendar.

The Competition

The Championships are conducted over four days. Teams are graded into divisions and compete in 3 one day 50 over per side matches and two 20/20 over matches on one day.

Attractions

With its fantastic summer holiday weather, Mildura is a buzz between Boxing Day And New Years Day. There a wide range of attractions, such as wineries, paddleboat cruises, restaurants, etc sporting events such as the harness racing meeting and a day/night cricket match and social events which revolve around the Mildura Settlers Hotel, the hub of the Championships and the Langtree Avenue Feast Street, the entertainment heart of the region.

With all these activities there is plenty to do not only for the players but their families too.

In addition, the organizing Committee develop a social calendar to make the Championships enjoyable both on and off the field. Link to Mildura Tourist Information website.
The Willowfest Whack

Each Year Willowfest goes in search of the biggest wacker in the country (as seen on Channel 9’s Cricket Show). Each wacker can enter at a cost of $10 per entry.

To enter a batter, a tosser (or the batter may elect to toss for him/herself) and a catcher are required. Each "Wacker" is given 3 attempts in the preliminary round with the longest 3 "Wackers" going through to the finals. A bonus 10 metres is given to the "Wack" if the catcher catches it. In the finals each finalist is given 5 attempts with the longest "wack" being judged the winner taking home the prize money. The Willowfest Wack is now on Day Three.

Social Evening
Each year Willowfest host a social night for all competing teams, family and friends to enjoy. Past years entertainment has included - a Cricketer's Cruise, Wine & Seafood nights at Mildara Blass Winery and Beer, Beef, Bourbon and Bulldust night with special guests Merv Hughes, Greg Blewitt, Jamie Siddons and other South Australian Redback players.

For the 2008 Championships the committe are developing a social calendar we are sure everyone will enjoy. More details will follow in future newsletters to registered teams.
Team Requirements
A team may be compiled from an existing club, association or any group of eligible individuals. Each team must field 11 players and wear standard cricket whites or a Willowfest approved uniform each of the 4 days of play. Each team requires a person to act as team manager and it is recommended that each team bring a competent scorer.

Teams managers are required to register their team and attend a prechampionship briefing at 7:30pm on Boxing Day. Teams are required to supply, 1 new ball for each game (as specified by Willowfest), 1 set of regulation stumps(as specified by Willowfest) All playing and safety equipment.
How much does it cost?
Each Mens team is required to pay $600.00 to Mildura Willowfest Australian Cricket Club Championships prior to the 17th of December 2008.

Womens teams are required to pay $300 total.
How do we enter our team?
To enter your team simply complete the attached registration form and forward your teams non refundable registration fee of $50. This will reserve a place for your team in the 2008 Mildura Willowest Australian Cricket Club Championships (subject to availability).

Confirmation cannot be given until a deposit of $250.00 is received by the Administration Manager of the 2006 Mildura Willowfest Australian Cricket Club Championships, on or prior to the 1st of December.
How do we find out what grade we are in?
Grading for the 2008 Mildura Willowfest Australian Crcket Club Championships will be held by the 20th of December. Team managers will be advised of their team's grade by the 21st of December.
